Interested in volunteering for the Bargaining Comittee?

Forming the Bargaining Committee:

As we kickoff the formation of the Weigel Workers Union Bargaining Committee, here is a short guide on the role and responsibilities of a committee member. Please review the requirements and, if you are interested, share your contact information at the bottom of this page to be added to the ballot.

  • A bargaining schedule has not yet been established with Weigel’s attorneys, so it’s difficult to give an accurate estimate of when bargaining sessions will occur. Volunteers should be willing to attend bargaining sessions during work hours, at night, over weekends, and even holidays. Sessions will not likely cover ALL of those instances, but can cover some combinations.

  • If bargaining occurs during work hours, you will either be paid by Weigel for your normal wages or the union will reimburse you.

  • Being part of the bargaining committee requires a significant time commitment, especially prior to and during bargaining sessions.

  • All bargaining preparations must be done outside of normal working hours.

  • The bargaining committee will be tasked with soliciting and reviewing feedback from all Weigel Workers Union members about what they would like to see in a contract and what issues are their highest priorities.

  • The bargaining committee will request information regarding wages, benefits and other issues from Weigel Broadcasting to review and adjust demands.

  • Bargaining committee members will review existing contracts from other stations for comparison purposes.

  • Committee members should attend all negotiating sessions with Weigel’s legal representation.

  • Committee members should remain professional and operate in good faith, even in the event that others do not.

  • Committee members will report back to the union members on bargaining progress and contract status updates. (Likely via a communications committee of some sort.)

The Bargaining Committee will consist of 7 members, who must be members in good standing with NABET-CWA Local 41. If 7 or fewer people volunteer to be a part of the bargaining committee, the committee will be elected by acclamation (meaning they will serve on the committee by default). If more than 7 people submit, we will hold elections.

  • Submissions to be part of the bargaining committee are open now.

  • We will update this page and all union members with a timeline of when volunteering will close and elections will take place.

  • The 7 candidates who receive the most votes will form the bargaining committee.

  • Should one of the 7 elected members decide to withdraw after winning election, their place will be given to the next highest vote-getter.
