To All Members of the Bargaining Unit,
In the wake of our Union’s victory, the organizing committee would like to issue the following statement:
First, we would like to start by thanking everyone who organized. Whether you helped with signage, treats, engaged with coworkers or simply had the open mind to consider a new path forward, you played a vital role in the success of this vote. We would also like to thank the management at Weigel for facilitating this election and NABET-CWA for representing us in this process.
In the past months, the Weigel Workers Union has grown from a small group of your coworkers sharing quiet conversations, to a large majority uniting to be heard. Going forward, it includes over 100 of us. We set out to create a more democratic workplace and the first step of that goal is complete thanks to you all casting your votes. The union is US.
Now the real work begins. Contrary to some claims, we have been clear that the Union could not guarantee you anything besides a voice; a seat at the table. Now that we have won that seat, we must decide what issues matter most to us and begin the bargaining process.
The next step is for the small group of coworkers, who kickstarted this process, to make room for all of the new voices that are now a part of our coalition. We understand that many of you were caught off guard by this Union effort. Some of you were against it. But “The Union is Us” is not a cute catchphrase on a stack of pamphlets. It’s the truth. It is not our goal to silence you or dictate to you. Our goal is to advocate for one another. The best way to do that is to come together and have important conversations and use our collective voice to make Weigel Broadcasting better and stronger.
The next step in creating a more democratic workplace is opening up the floor for you to decide who will represent you during the bargaining process and what issues are most important to you. We encourage all of you to make your voices heard, so we can support each other.
In the coming weeks we will be sharing the following:
A description of how the bargaining committee election process will be handled.
Methods of submitting to be on the bargaining committee or nominating someone else to serve on the committee.
A form for submitting feedback about what issues matter to you and your team the most.
Additionally, you will receive clarifications about the role NABET-CWA will play in your daily life.
In Solidarity,
The Weigel Workers Union
